Gazelle dames satu ini terlihat lebih cantik dan dewasa dari umurnya..mungkin karena mainnya dengan yang tua tua jadi terbawa auranya..Sepeda ini menurut yang punya di dapatkan dari seorang dosen yang dulu pernah mengajar dinegara holland sana, ketika pulang ke Indonesia sang dosen memboyong sepeda tsb, dimana semasa bertugas sang sepedalah yang setia mengantar sang dosen kemana-mana.
Kalau tidak salah sepertinya sepeda ini keluaran tahun 50-60an ini bisa dilihat dari type frame, cat dan part-partnya yang cenderung type keluaran lebih muda. Yang special dari gazelle ini adalah tuas untuk perpindahan transmisi ada di handle stang.

Ini adalah Gazelle Luxe produksi tahun 1960-an. Meskipun varian muda namun benar-benar sangat layak dikoleksi karena edisi spesial. Cat aslinya biasanya kombinasi antara cat dominan dan cat putih tulang. Selamat untuk yang sang owner. Nuwun.

This is a beautiful original Gazelle type No.1 bicycle.
It is build in 1962 and has the original Gazelle 3-speed-gear and even the more rare original Gazelle gearchanger !
The Gazelle-3-speed is completely different than the 3-speed Sturmey Archer, only on the outside it looks almost the same, it was an expensive option in 1962.
The Gazelle-3-speed hub is only produced for a few years, they were more expensive than the S.A-3 speed and are rare in Holland nowadays, so they must be very rare in Indonesia.
I have “only” 4 of these on my Gazelles after all those years in a country that is full of Gazelles (Holland).
It is also on my 1963 Gazelle crossframe (this has also the same grey colour)

The original Gazelle-3-speed gearchanger is even more rare because these were very often replaced by Sturmey Archer gear-changers after the owner had used the bicycle for a while…
This is because this original Gazelle-gearchanger does not work so good….It has no clear “click” when you change to another gear and it does easy jump out of gear when you turn your hand a little bit while you are cycling….
The S.A. changers work better so they were often used as a replacement for the original Gazelle-changers.
If it is replaced on a bicycle this is still visible by the small hole where the cable goes into the steering just in the last bent.
And that is why having an original (not so good working) one is so special, there are not many left over !
The rest of the bicycle is in a very good shape, I do not see any rust like on many Gazelles here in Holland, and all original parts are in the right place !
I think the small last part of the chaincase is missing, try to find this and paint it in the right colour, for the rest it is all there; The small simpel Gazelle-lock, the Lucifer lamp, two-colour Lemet-gazelle-saddle, the original transfer and biezen (striping), still old-type chrome wheels, etc.
These bicycles are realy very well-build, when you look after them properly they can be used for a lifetime.
The “chique” grey colour also makes it a very good-looking bicycle; “The Mercedes-benz of all bikes” !
I think it’s a beauty, bicycles with these quality and beauty will never be made again !

By the way;
Today starts in Groningen (Holland) the FONGERS exhibition because Albert Fongers started making bicycles in Groningen 125 years ago.
The exhibition is in “het noordelijk scheepvaart museum” in the city of Groningen, not so far away from where the FONGERS factory started producing bicyles 125 years ago.
It is open every day during the week and the collection can be seen until the end of november.
Because one of my old Fongers Bicycles (HZ75) is also in the museum I am invited there on the opening of it today.
Also because of the opening of the Fongers-museum-collection “vereniging de oude fiets” organizes a bicycle tour from Haren to the museum, only for Fongers-bicycles and they expect about 100 old Fongers bicycles with their owners to be there.
I try to make some photo’s in the museum if it is allowed and also from the Fongers Tour on sunday, so maybe some of you can put these photo’s on the sepeda-wordpress-site if you like it.

Go to the site, than go to “home” and than type in the “search” (zoeken) FONGERS.
You will find a lot of very old Photo’s of almost every type of Fongers and you can go into detail very good with most Photo’s.
I think it is an unbelieveable lot of history on this site !
