Waaa… Mantab sodara sepedanya!!!
Raleigh tua bin rupawan

hm…mak’nyus gantenge…!
This is absolutely a very beautiful old Raleigh, even the periode 3-speed sturmey Archer “type “K” gear with the original shifter are there !
Original craks, steering locker, original brakes, saddle, etc. !
A beauty ! Import from England I quesh ?
Agree friend, viewed from the paint and stamp on the bike still looks and very well maintained, very lucky who can take care of the bike.
Perhaps, too, who had a bang Alex.
Mr. Andre, you are great…you are absolutely right..this bike is come from England. Now here,a lot of bikes come from abroad, because they want to find a bike that old and in good condition, where now it is hard to find here and the price is expensive.
Haha, thanks Laexs, this Raleigh was in a too original and in too nice condition to have survived in Indonesia for 81 years, now comes the dificult job for the Indonesian collector to keep it this beautiful for the next 81 years !
But not all bikes are in good condition should be bought from abroad, I have a bike in good condition that I bought from a neighbor, a bike has been stored for 10 years in his warehouse and I get when being cleaned. The owners never i use it because its size is too high for him. he..he.
This is the link of my bike
http://sepeda.wordpress.com/2011/02/18/epsd-raleigh-gent-65/
Haha, yes, your Raleigh is beautiful too, the exeption makes the rule ofcorse.
But with all respect for you Raleigh, this 1930 bicycle is just a bit better in details.
It has a periode and rare Sturmey Archer K-series 3-speed-hub with rare shifter wich is realy original on this bike, the pin-striping is still there in 2 colours, the steering-lock, the typical Raleigh special brakes with reaction-arms.
+ it has a certain “Look”, I have a sort of klick when I see an unspoiled very old bicycle where nobody messed with, it is hard to explain what it is, I learned it myself over the years I think, haha !
A bit like you see a beautiful woman that does not know she is, you immediately see it, it is a beauty, but don’t ask why, it’s just you feeling that says it, you just know it…..hahaha !
I saw a lot of bicycles in Indonesia on photo’s, there are many beautiful and very rare and very old bicycles amongst them, no doubt about that.
But an absolute top-bicycle, completely original and not restaurated, in original coulours, with pin-striping (biezen) still on the frame and original transfers and nuts and bolts that have never been touched, etc. I have never seen in Indonesia, exept import-bicycles that have been imported recently.
I think this is because a bicycle from 1930 or so, that always has been in Indonesia, has been used for a certain periode, it has a bit suffered because of the cercomstances in you country, no matter how good people cared about it.
Than it was sold to another man, and maybe later sold again and again and 80 years later you can see it has been in Indonesia for all those years.
The striping is polished away, parts that were worn are renewed with parts that were O.K. but a little bit different, etc.
In Holland, and I think also in England, sometimes, not so often, but sometimes, you can find a bicycle that was bought by a man in 1930(for example ), this man had also a car and a motorbike, and hardly ever used the bicycle, it stood in a warm and dry shed in the house for 40 years and it did maybe 100 kilometers !
Than the man died and the bicycle went to his son, this son already had a bicycle, the bicycle of his father was still very nice, so he put the bicycle of his father under a blanket in his warm and dry shed, there it stood for another 30 years because the son had his own bike, car, etc, he did not need his father’s old bicycle.
Than on a sudden day he needs the space in his shed and he sees his fathers old bcycle again, he was completely forgotten it….and he put’s it on EBAY or Marktplaats or he sells it to a local bicycle-fan….
This is more or less the way I found my Gazelle No.8 kruisframe and my 1939 Gazelle “A”, it is hardly ever used, like new in every little detail, the bolts were never losend, it is like it left the factory a few weeks ago.
These bicycles are very rare ofcorse, but similar bicycles, in a slightly less super-state, can still be found in Holland and England.
Another advantage is that if a certain part is damaged or worn, here you can often easier find the missing parts exactely like the original.
By these cercumstances and different climate, a 80 year old bicycle in Indonesia looks a little bit different than the same age bicycle in Holland or England.
Sometimes it is just some small detail, but I often see it immediatelly.
Lucky for you in Indonesia that I am an old old-bicycle-nerd that lives on the other side of the world ! hahaha !
Greetings from cold Holland (+3 celcius here)
Andre
Mas Andre Koopmans. Mbah saya sangat mencintai sepedanya setiap hari dielus elus. Mau cium barangnya keras .Nggak ah. ( Saya pikir apa mungkin walondo yg disana ada waktu ngelus2 sepeda).Karena keseringan dibelai belai maka striping hilang dan cat jadi tipis. Yes really Mr Koopman my grandfather had used his saroong he weared to cleaned his bicycle he loved. That is why many bicycle in Indon Have lost their stripping. I think. ha ha ha
Yes, Mr. Andre in Indonesia is difficult to find bicycle in original coulours, with pin-striping (biezen) still on the frame and original transfers and nuts and bolts that have never been touched because besides has been used for a certain periode, the cercomstances in my country the main factor is many people use the bike for support of his work, usually they use a bicycle to carry lots of stuff and weight. Unlike in Holland or in England they use it only to transport bicycles.
Mr. Andre, according to my observation the paint quality of England bike is more powerful than the Holland bike, It, s true ?
Yes, I am fortunate to live in Indonesia because it is still easy to find an old bike but for now it is no longer … he..he
Best regard
Alex
The paint quality is different, every bicycle factory had it’s own paintery and they often had their own “secret” way of painting and mufling their bicycles.
I know that Fongers and Gazelle had very good paint, also union had good paint, I once found an old union that was completely grown into a hedge, I had to cut a lot of wood before I could get it out, it had at least been there for 25 years, but on the frame there was no rust at all.
I don’t know if brittish bicycles have better paint, it is often depending on how a bicycle was treated, if the paint was not damaged, the bikes don’t rust most of the times.
Batavus bicycles from the 1970′s have a super-painting, they simply never rust, my wive has such a Batavus from 1975, that bike simply has no rust at all, while it is often standing in the rain often.
Sepeda yg bagus mas, sayang kurang deail dibagian fork & no frame bawah sadel, biasanya kalau seri tua agak berbeda dgn yg seri muda… Salam dari Jogja…
Like I sayd, I am just an old bicycle-nerd….haha
When it is almost impossible to have a completely original old bicycle, by any reasons, you have to make compromises, nothing wrong with that !
yes sir, i strongly agree more with that. compromises
i have ever seen an old Hercules which has the same painting method as gazelle. What i believe the painting technology in European countries are almost the same. The way we threat our bike, humidity…etc will be the best reason why the original painting is still there..i have an old bike from Germany which still show us its biezen, but the painting is covered by dirt.
situs untuk megetahui usia sepeda apaan mas.??
Untuk sepeda apa mas, England atau Holland ?
The paint itself can be more or less the same, but the treatment of the bare material can be different and this can make the difference between the paint staying on the frame or chipping of…
For many years bicycles were immerced in a big bath filled with paint, in later years they were sprayed with sprayguns on airpressure, nowadays a lot of better quality bicycles are powdercoated.
I have been responseble for this proces at the Batavus factory in Heerenveen and they still powdercoat all bicycles exept for the children’s bikes.
Biezen are often polished away on older bicycles by “too good” treatment, I have seen biezen on an old Gazelle that could be wiped away by just light polishing with a little bit of polishing oil.
In that case it is better not to clean the bicycle too often…
if the biezen is there, it means that the painting is also still there because biezen is on painting, isn’t it? i agree with mr. Koopmans, today bike company has better painting technology, but in the same year european bike companies has similar technology but when they released a new high end series they would have used the last technology then.
