    HIDUP KOBA!!!!

    HIDUP P**I !!!!(hehehe…PSSI)

    HIDDUP “senayan” !!!!!(Gelora Bung Karno)

  7. Hallo Indonesia,

I saw some pictures with old bikes from Holland in Indonesia on the internet.
Funny that you like old Dutch bicycles more than the people in Holland itself !
I have some old Gazelles from 1912 – 1940, and some specials from Gazelle (X-frames) from 1960’s.
In total about 25 oltimers, most of them Gazelle, but also a few Fongers.

It is a pitty you don’t have enough spareparts, in Holland it is a bit better, I have lots of spareparts.
I saw you use Chinese parts on old bikes from Holland, ofcause this is the only solution for you to keep the bike roling. though the quality of chinese bikes is not so good…
I saw you use chrome luggage-racks on black bikes from Holland !
If I may give you one advise; paint the chrome (chinese) luggage-rack (pakjedrager in Holland) BLACK, in Holland these have ALWAYS been black on old biciycles.

In Holland there is only one old bicycle-club ! it is caled “de oude fiets”, and it has only a few hundert members !
I am “Gazelle specialist” of our club, I studied the old Gazelle-archives of the Gazelle-factory in Dieren (Holland) and made lots of notices and pictures of the old archives.
I am the proud owner of a 1912 Gazelle-Girder-frame bicycle, these are only made from 1910-1912 !
As far as we know this is the only bike of these left over (at least in Holland)
I also have an 78 cm (!) X-frame Gazelle of 1929, one of the first the factory made.
Further I have a Mohawk-frame Gazelle from 1932 with webb-spring frontsuspension, this has been an old police-bike.
And some very old bikes from 1912-1928.
In Holland we mostly collect the special bikes the Dutch factory’s made or the very old bikes from the beginning of the production in the first years of the previus century.

This is because in Holland there are so many old bicycles left.
If you collect every pre-war-bicycle in Holland, you have hundreds of bikes in a few years.
And we (at least I) don’t have space to store them !

    The webside of “vereniging de oude fiets” is;

    http://www.oudefiets.nl

    Another good site is the website of Herbert Kuner, Herbert is also a member of our club (vereniging) and he did a lot of resurge;
    http://www.rijwiel.net

I hope you understand my English, it is not 100%…..
Best regards and greeting from the other side of the world!,

  8. Hallo Mr T and Wong-cilik,

A few of my old bicycles you can see on the yahoo forum. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/oudefietsen/
If you look at “Photos” you can see many bikes of dutch members of mostly “vereniging de oude fiets”.
Most of these bikes have all original parts, some of them are even unrestorated.
On my name “By andrekoopmans” there is an explanation about pre-war Gazelle front-chain-wheels.
In the text under the pictures (in dutch) I explain the different types of front-chain-wheels the Gazelle factory used during the periode ~1901 – 1946.
There are also foto’s of a few of my unrestored Gazelles, all the pictures are unrestoreted bikes.
Only the big 75 cm X-frame Gazelle of 1929 is restoreted because this bike was in a very bad condition when I found it.
In Holland we mostly like to keep the bikes as original as possible, more or less as they left the bicycle-factory when they were new.
I only re-paint bikes if they are in very bad condition, otherwise I keep them “as found”.
In the pictures of my Gazelle 1916 you see a completely authentic Gazelle from 1916, this bike was found in a house in Den Haag, where it stood under a blanked for about 60 years !
The bike is not used since 1931 !

I do not know how much you in Indonesia know about old Gazelle-bikes.
Let me tell you a few things you maybe already know (?)

I have a list with Gazelle frame-numbers, on the list you can find the exact building year of every Gazelle-bike ever made.
the frame-number on old Gazelles is always on the right side under the saddle (on saddle-lug).
Do Indonesian Gazelle-people know the existence of this list ?

From 1924 (from framenumber 187.227 on) the word “GAZELLE” is stamped in every Gazelle-frame, this because other bicycle-builders in those years also tried to build (fake-)gazelles!

From 1925 (from framenumber 220.000 on) the Gazelle Copper-frame-plate changed.
From the beginning the frame-plate had a Gazelle-head on top of it (only the head), in 1925 this was changed in the whole gazelle animal springing in front of a wheel.

On the female-bicycles the roud frame-tube is mostly round from the vertical tube till the top of the steering tube.
Only from 1906-1930 Gazelle female-bikes had the first 30 cm of the round-tube in a strait line.
On this you can easely recognise pre 1930-gazelles, the first 30 cm are straigt, from there the tube is bend round until it reaches the vertical frame-tube.

The first Gazelle drumbrakes of the factory in Dieren were build at the end of 1929. (drum’s with 6 nails on the axel)

before the war Gazelle had it’s own lamps/dynamo’s, this wer ARKO (from ARendsen en KÖlling) ELGA (from ELectrisch Licht Gazelle) and PRICO (from PRIma COncurentie)

In 1931 Gazelle-factory started to produce Chrome parts in stead of Nikkel.
Also an (original) 1930 (or older) Gazelle-bike can never have chrome-parts !
Gazelle-bikes newer than 1931 can have nikkle parts because in those years you could chose if you wanted chrome or nikkle-parts on your new bike. Chrome was more expensive !

Gazelle started to produce the rear-light welded on the back-fender (spatbord) from 1938 on. In Holland this rear-light is called “varkensneus” (pig-nose).
On cheaper bikes you could chose rear-lamps like the “Koets A”, “Spanninga”, “T.M.I.” or “Phillips”.

Pre-war gazelle-cranks can be recognised by the the way of writing of the word “gazelle” on them.
before (and in) the war “Gazelle”was spelled with a big “G” and the rest of the word written in small letters. (Gazelle)
After the war “GAZELLE” on the cranks was completely written in big letters. (GAZELLE)

I can write a lot more but maybe you in Indonesia already know these things.

Are there a lot of old Gazelles in Indonesia, and if so, how old are they ?
Can you still find nice original pre-war bicycles in Indonesia and buy them very cheap like in Holland ?

In Holland there is a website that is called “Marktplaats”, here you can find almost everything what is for sale.
It is a sort of EBAY, but only for Holland.
On this site there is also a small part for oldtimer-bicycles.
You can find theme by going to marktplaats and than clicking on “fietsen en accesoires” and than scroll to “Oldtimers”.
There is a lot of rubbish for sale, but there are also some nice oldtimerbikes sometimes !
