“FONGERS” CCG Dubbeldekker ???

  5. Salam Onthel ,

      terima kasih atas kritikannya,

  8. Hahaha, that bicycle looks very much like my HZ 75 ! πŸ™‚

    1934 Fongers "dubbeldekker"

You are lucky it is only a 65 cm frame, otherwise nobody in Indonesia could ride it, my HZ 75 I can only ride with the saddle in the lowest position, and I am 2 meters tall !!

The 65 cm frame most of the time is just with a single upper frame tube, but it could be ordered at the Fongers factory with 2 upper frame tubes.
This was an extra, you had to pay extra mony for it, but than you had a very strong frame !
Mostly these frames were bought by big heavy man, they needed an extra strong frame.
I have 2 Fongers with a 75 cm frame, the 75 cm frames have ALWAYS a double upper frametube ( “dubbeldekker” )

I can not see what the framenumber is, so I can not tell you the exact building-year.
The bracket with the 2 vertical splines looks to be very old for Fongers (!?), but the rest a lot newer, so I can not say what is original and what not, but I think it is from the end of the 1930’s
Over all a beautiful and impressif bicycle to look at, I hope the owner is big enough to ride it !

  9. Fongers sometimes produced bicycles with parts that were typical for bicycles they made many years before.
Like they found a box of old (new) frameparts somewhere in the factory, and used it on new bikes !! (a sort of new old stock !)
I think this is what realy happened, I saw old pictures from inside of the Fongers factory and it looked like a complete mess of bicyle parts.
But once in a while they cleaned up and found parts that were maybe 20 or 30 years old, but good, so they simply used them on new bicycles !

I saw it earlier on other Fongers bicycles, sometimes you see a nice original Fongers and everything seems to mach the buildingyear you can read from the framenumber, but all of a sudden you notice something that “could not be there”, a much older part that is used to build a frame in a later periode.

The bracket-lug of this bike looks to be an example for that theory.
The frame looks to be from the 30’s because it has not welded on steering-lugs for the bearings, the CCG 65 type-mark like the had it in the ’30’s, the lugs look to be from the 1930’s too, so is the simpel backfork with simpel flat ends and the “cheaper” horizontal Fongers backfork looks also from the ’30’s.
BUT the bracket lug, I think, is found back somewhere in the factory warehouse, it is MUCH older !
I saw these bracket-lugs with the vertical small splines only on very old Fongers from between 1900 and 1910.
Even my Fongers BB60 from 1908 has the “newer” type of bracket we all know from Fongers, with the horizontal bolts under the bracket.
Fongers used these horizontal bolts under the bracket for a very long time, until the 1960’s on the more expensive types.
All Fongers had these horizontal bolts under the bracket, OR “nothing”, just a screwed in bracket, without bolts or splines.

The Fongers bracket with vertical splines is very old and very rare, just as rare as it is found in this “dubbeldekker” from the 1930’s !

I hope you understand this long story, haha !

    Greetings from Belanda,

    Andre

  10. @ Andre koopmans
This bike , it looked not original , have to be careful to see part by part , I really wonder how you put the such long comment for this bike , instead many part of this bike are not synchronise each other , as a old fongers ???
It is very sad that in fact many people now in Indonesia make a fake copy of the old Dutch bike just fun or to sell as an original old one’s to the people who don’t know about old bike , our site wira wiri – sepeda wordpress .com , some time , posted this a fake one just to make the publik understand if there are many a fake bike as an example , and so people can see a sample for comparison to make more understanding in history of old Dutch bike .

  11. I wish I could be smart enough to choose the original one, instead of seriously learning it in detail of both original and the fake one! I saw a very nice Gazelle without serial number in Bandung, this is really rare….damn rare,… as rare as our this lovely Dubbel dekker hahahaa…! Learning from THE ORIGINAL BIKE you can see THE FAKE one later, but ONLY LEARNING FROM THE FAKE BIKE how will you know THE ORIGINAL…….never mix it up, buddy!

  12. I have to be satisfied with only watching a very old, rare and original bicycle. The older, rarer and more original the bicycle the more satisfied I will be. Why is it so? The reason is that I cannot stand the price which is as high as “seventh layer of the sky” (sorry to use Indonesian expression which stands for “extremely high”). If I had known the present situation would be like this, I wouldn’t have sold my “Raliegh” my father bought me in 1961. My father gave me the bike as a present after I passed my exam of elementary school with flying colors. It was a new one complete with a set of dynamo and lamp even though without shifter and multiple speeds. I couldn’t describe with words how happy I was with my new bike so that I never let any dust stay on it. So far my knowledge about old bikes has been so limited that if I want to know whether an old bike with its parts is original or not, I can only refer to books on old bikes, ask friends or browse for information in Google.

Apart from being enchanted at watching old and original bikes, I also like watching dummy old-fashioned ones which are specially made to look old with old brand-names so that most people believe them as original ones. One day when gazing at an old cross-frame bike at an old-fashioned bicycle exhibition I was told by a friend that the one I was inspecting had been locally made. He also pointed to me the parts which were original or not. He said there were some places in Central and East Java where such kinds of dummy old bikes were made. I never realized that it was a fake one until after he had given me the description since it was perfectly made.

Talking about the enjoyment of riding a bicycle, however, I would rather say that it is just the same whether I ride an old or a new bike. There is no guarantee that an expensive, original and old bike must be more comfortable to ride than a new and locally made one. As far as I am concerned, the most enjoyable bike to ride is the one that fits to my body so that I won’t get tired easily after a long ride.

  13. mr. grayah2 yth.
sekali lagi kami tekankan, seperti apa mas wc bilang

    salam

  14. I always take people serious, if I see pictures of a bicycle, I try to give as good as possible a discription of what I see and what I think it is.
In Holland I never see fake-oltimer bicycles, because in Holland we do not have them. Nobody in Holland makes a fake-old bike, why would he, an old bicycle in Holland is very cheap for us here and there are a lot of them available when you look for a while.

In Indonesia there are many fake-oldtimers, build by people somewhere in a shed and made to look like “the real one”.
The better the skills of the person who is building that “oldtimer”, and the better the knowledge of that person about how the real thing looks like, the better the fake-bicycle can be made.
I can imagine that a good craftsman with all knowledge of how an old bicycle was build, could make a perfect copy and nobody could see it is fake !

If this Fongers is fake, and made after a picture of my HZ75, than it looks to be done very well, exept for a number of “strange” details, some of these details I wrote in my comments.
I can not see the bicycle in real, than I could look better and maybe see some welding or other mistakes, but I find it hard to say it is a fake-bike by only looking at these small pictures.

I have seen bicycles with very old frames and for the rest a lot of newer parts from different makes of bicycles, when i would say it is a fake-oldtimer and it is a mess, than that person would be very disapointed and maybe he would sell the bike for a few ruphia’s, that would be a shame.
I think the frame is the hart of a bicycle, if the rest is wrong, you can always make it better in time by collecting better and more original parts.
I like wrong bicycles with a very old frame, these are potentional nice oldtimers.

It is a pitty for you boys, that Holland is so far away, you would be careful with the lots of old bicycles that are still in use in Holland, mostly by students and young people that abuse these oldtimers and throw them away when they are damaged….

If this “fongers CCG 65” is fake and homemade, than I am sorry I gave it so much time, I told what I saw and what I thought was strange, so you may make a conclusion, I do not do that from only a few pictures.
But ofcause I had my doubts about it….

    Greetings,
    Andre

  17. Dear Mr. Koopmans,
I really appreciate your comment and advises on my CCG65 above. I myself have no knowledge/clue whether my CCG65 is originally fongers but it is really my dream to have original parts beside the frame. Is it possible to have your favour to get original parts of ccg65 to complete the originality of my ccg65 ?

  18. This is very interesting, You are a very skilled blogger.
I have joined your rss feed and look forward to seeking more of your magnificent post.
